VP of Medical Services / Chief Medical Officer - Full Time

Salary Range : $275,000-$325,000 (Pay information will vary depending upon relevant experience for the position)

GENERAL SCOPE :

It is the policy of Jewish Home that the Vice President of Medical Services / Chief Medical Officer (VP of Medical / CMO) ensures compliance with applicable Federal and New York State regulations, including serving as the designated medical director for Jewish Home’s nursing home, encompassing both long-term care and subacute rehabilitation programs (LTC and SRP). The VP of Medical / CMO is responsible for the development and implementation of medical policies related to resident care and for ensuring the quality of medical care provided to all residents and patients receiving services through Jewish Home medical practices, including the nursing home, Physician House Calls, and Personal Medicine of Rochester, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.

In addition to serving as medical director for the nursing home, the VP of Medical / CMO also fulfills this role for Jewish Home’s Licensed Home Care Services Agency (LHCSA) and provides medical oversight for the organization’s residential housing programs, including assisted and independent living.

The VP of Medical / CMO provides enterprise-wide medical leadership, ensuring alignment of clinical practice standards, supporting regulatory compliance, and guiding quality improvement efforts across all medical services delivered through Jewish Home programs.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATION :

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) with an active license to practice in New York State. Board certification in internal medicine, family medicine, or physical medicine and rehabilitation is required. Additional certification in geriatrics and / or hospice and palliative medicine is strongly preferred. Certification as a Certified Medical Director (CMD) through The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (PALTmed) is also strongly desired.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

• Provides direction and coordination of medical care across Jewish Home and serves as a member of the senior management team, reporting directly to the President / CEO on matters related to clinical operations, medical staffing, and budgetary oversight affecting residents, patients, and service participants.
• Serves as staff to the Resident Care / Quality Assurance Committee of the Board of Directors and acts as a principal clinical advisor to the President / CEO.
• Oversees the overall coordination of medical care, ensuring the adequacy, appropriateness, and integration of medical services provided to residents, patients, and day service participants. Maintains oversight of employee health status in collaboration with relevant departments.
• Builds and sustains relationships with community partners and academic institutions to support Jewish Home’s role as a leader in geriatrics and geriatric education.
• Delivers an annual “State of Jewish Home’s Health” report to the Board of Directors.
• In addition to leadership responsibilities, provide direct primary care to a mutually agreed-upon panel of nursing home residents.
• Oversees and ensures coordination of medical care across all programs, including residents, patients, and day service participants.
• Monitors the quality and timeliness of attending physicians’ care plans, orders, and documentation.
• Ensures continuous 24 / 7 medical coverage through scheduling and oversight of on-call providers.
• Provides direct clinical services when the primary attending physician is unavailable.
• Participates in the admissions process, as needed, to ensure timely and clinically appropriate transitions.
• Offers clinical consultation to the leadership team on admissions, medical planning, and programmatic initiatives upon request.
• Participates in infection prevention and control efforts in collaboration with other departments.
• Serves as a member of interdisciplinary care planning teams, contributing to individualized patient evaluation and care planning.
• Provides clinical and regulatory oversight for documentation, coding, and billing practices to ensure compliance, optimize reimbursement, and support the financial sustainability of medical services.

MANAGEMENT, SUPERVISION AND ADMINISTRATIVE :

E XPERIENCE :

A minimum of five (5) years of experience serving as a medical director in a nursing home setting is required. In addition, a minimum of three (3) years of progressive healthcare leadership experience is required, including demonstrated responsibility for supervising medical staff, contributing to strategic planning, and participating as a member of an organizational management or executive team.
