Health Information Management Director

Under the direction of the Director of Health Information, Management integrates and manages all daily functions for the department, ensuring internal / external customer expectations, performance standards, and strategic objectives are being met. Facilitates the development of a multidisciplinary health care team to provide data integrity and quality reporting for patient care. Interacts with IT for managing, upgrading, and troubleshooting multiple applications that are used within the department. Supports end users with training and coaching on applications used in the department. Develops standards of performance for management and staff. Develops goals consistent with the hospital's mission.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to :
- Provide enterprise-wide HIM expertise to support Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) growth, including newly acquired practices, by providing for initial and ongoing HIM assessment, analysis, training, and workflow recommendations to standardize practice for all BILH.
- Make patient and customer satisfaction the highest priority with every interaction. Assist colleagues in working through difficult customer service issues using the best approach for satisfactory resolution.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of systems as an end user to champion the use of new technologies, promote system enhancements and optimization to support consistent enterprise-wide best practices through analysis, kill advancement, and training.
- Assist with the development of the overall HIM Department budget, applying cost-containing measures and responsible spending to ensure that budgetary obligations are met. Keeps the HIM Director apprised of all issues with potential for budgetary impact.
- Ensures compliance with Health System, State, Federal, and JC standards / regulations and stays abreast of new legislation and regulations that affect HIM.
- Develop and utilize statistical reporting tools to identify patterns and trends to improve efficiency and quality of workflow. Provide feedback, understanding, and training as needed to support enterprise accountability and quality activities.
- Participate as an active member of numerous committees and teams to improve and support advanced technology, improve workflow efficiency, support regulatory compliance, and quality patient care.
- Foster a balanced approach of accountability and colleague engagement to support unity of purpose by linking departmental goals to the organization's goals and mission.
- Work with the HIM Department leadership to identify colleague talent, provide advancement opportunities, training, administer policies and procedures in conjunction with hiring, training discipline, discharging, and evaluation all HIM colleagues.
- Execute the quality plan to ensure data integrity, including the process for chart correction, duplicate medical record merges, accuracy of the enterprise MPI and linking of medical record numbers throughout the BILH network.
- Navigate electronic and paper source documents and systems to provide data retrieval and abstraction to support system-wide business needs.
- Assess departmental performance in relation to industry best practices and established goals and standards; recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvement in the efficiency of the department and services provided.
- Manage overall daily operations of the Health Information Management Department.
Minimum Qualifications :
Education : Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and / or experience
Experience : Minimum of 5 years of management experience in a healthcare environment.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities :
Excellent oral and written communication skills.Prior experience utilizing EHR software.Foundational knowledge of regulatory standards as related to HIM functions.Pay Range : $79,997.00 USD - $107,665.00 USD
The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
