Job Summary
The Patient Advocate will be responsible for managing patient accounts, processing billing inquiries, and ensuring the accurate and timely collection of payments. This role requires a strong understanding of healthcare billing processes, exceptional customer service skills, and the ability to collaborate with patients and internal teams to resolve billing issues.
- Process billing inquiries, explain charges, and provide clear explanations of billing processes and payment options.
- Respond promptly to patient calls and inquiries regarding billing statements, charges, and payment options.
- Assist patients in understanding insurance coverage, copayments, and deductible obligations.
- Follow up with patients regarding overdue accounts to ensure timely payment collection.
- Negotiate and establish payment plans with patients in collaboration with the billing department.
- Update and maintain accurate patient billing records in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Document all communication with patients, including payment arrangements and agreements.
- Collaborate with internal departments, including finance and Revenue Cycle Management (RCM), to address and resolve billing issues.
- Provide information on available financial assistance programs to eligible patients.
Requirements :
High School Diploma / GED2 years of experience in patient billing, medical billing, or related field2 years of EMR / EHR experience2 years of Ophthalmology experience preferredKnowledge of medical billing, and reimbursement processes.Knowledge of healthcare billing software and revenue cycle management tools.Strong customer service skills with a focus on patient satisfaction.Ability to handle sensitive financial discussions with empathy and professionalism.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Detail-oriented and capable of working independently and as part of a team.Knowledge of industry regulations, such as HIPAA and CMS guidelines, is a plus.Benefits
