ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Accounting Manager supports the Director of Accounting in overseeing and executing the day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), inventory accounting, and cost accounting. This role ensures compliance with GAAP, accurate and timely financial transactions, and departmental efficiency. The Accounting Manager is responsible for team supervision, reconciliations, and maintaining internal controls to support the organization's growth and strategic objectives.
DUTIES INCLUDE
Manage the day-to-day accounting operations across AP, AR, inventory, and cost accounting functions.
Supervise and provide guidance to accounting staff; ensure tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.
Oversee the full cycle of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including approvals, coding, posting, and reconciliation.
Review and reconcile key balance sheet accounts, including fixed assets, accruals, and prepaid expenses.
Support the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and GAAP.
Partner with cross-functional teams (HR, IT, Operations) to support ongoing improvements to financial systems and reporting tools.
Assist with budget monitoring, variance analysis, and cost accounting procedures to ensure accuracy in production and pricing data.
Support the Director of Accounting with the development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the department.
Contribute to the preparation of audit materials and collaborate with external auditors during reviews and year-end audits.
Assist in ERP system enhancements and implementations, including testing and user support.
Monitor and help manage aged inventory and collaborate with sales and operations to address aging stock.
Participate in the development of metrics and dashboards to monitor accounting performance and identify process improvement opportunities.
Uphold Wawona Frozen Foods' commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement through active participation in programs and training.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA preferred.
5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
Experience in manufacturing, food processing, agriculture, or distribution industries is strongly preferred.
Solid knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, cost accounting, and financial reporting.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
Proficiency in ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics Nav / Business Central a plus).
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong skills in Outlook, PowerPoint, and accounting software tools.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
High level of integrity, accuracy, and dependability.

This role operates in a standard office environment but may require occasional visits to the production facilities. The position requires frequent use of a computer, phone, and standard office equipment. Occasional travel to partner offices or audit meetings may be required. Physical requirements may include lifting up to 20 pounds, walking across plant environments, and remaining seated or standing for extended periods.
When in production areas, compliance with GMP, Food Safety, Food Defense, and SQF protocols is mandatory. Slip-resistant footwear is required, and strict adherence to dress code and hygiene standards must be followed.
