DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is seeking to hire an Environmental Planning Intern to remotely support our offices in Temecula, Ontario, and Palm Desert, California . While this internship is remote, candidates must reside in either Riverside County or San Bernardino County to be eligible. Occasional in-person attendance will be required for training sessions and team meetings. As such, reliable transportation is required. Part-time hours are available.

In this internship, you will work under the direction of a Project Manager and Environmental Planner to conduct environmental review of projects in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). You will be involved with the preparation of environmental documentation and will have the opportunity to learn about the application of CEQA and / or NEPA on various types of projects, including with municipal clients, agencies, and private developers.

The position requires enthusiasm for research, data compilation, public policy and governmental regulations, planning involving communities, infrastructure, land development, housing, water, transportation, or similar sectors.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Planning, Environmental Science, Geology, Biology, Ecology or a related field is required
  • Minimum of 2 years of coursework completed
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Located in Riverside or San Bernardino County
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, are essential to success in this role
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency in organization and presentation of documentation

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be located in Riverside or San Bernardino County.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation. Moderate travel within Riverside and / or San Bernardino County may be required.
  • Must have a can-do attitude and enjoy working with others.
  • Strong writing, communication, technical analysis, and computer research skills are essential.
  • Successful candidates for this position will be motivated self-starters who can work independently and as part of a team.
  • COMPENSATION

    The approximate compensation range for this position is $20- $25 per hour. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
