Pay Range :
$70,533 – $96,289 per year (E29); Base Pay : $70,533 per year.
This position will close on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 11 : 59 p.m. (MST).
Key Responsibilities
Creates high‑quality communications content to increase outreach and engagement efforts across Salt Lake City.
Develops and manages communications, engagement, design, and social media resources for City departments, including interactive trainings, best practices, policy guides, and accessibility guides.
Manages official social media accounts and profiles, working with citywide teams to identify content, topics, and information flow; designs and implements social media strategy and editorial calendar.
Consults on communication strategies of various scopes, leveraging cross‑departmental coordination.
Tracks metrics on content, views, and community engagement; uses analytics reports to refine future outcomes.
Covers, reports, and promotes City services, initiatives, events, press conferences, and public meetings through social media, digital programming, media relations, and written communications.
Stays current with engagement, social media, multimedia, and web communication trends and technologies.
Performs post‑production editing of photo and video segments from a variety of sources and in a variety of formats using industry‑standard tools.
Administers software resources that increase public engagement and strengthen internal communication networks.
Manages project priority and delegates to other City communications staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in communications, graphic design, marketing, journalism, or a closely related field, with at least four (4) years of related experience (education and experience may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis up to four years).
Demonstrated ability to convey complex information clearly, effectively, and professionally in both written and verbal formats.
Strong multi‑faceted project management and organizational skills.
In‑depth knowledge of social media platforms and how they can be deployed according to public sector standards.
Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X environments; Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and proper project and file management.
Experience in public relations, marketing, sales, community engagement, and management.
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of City staff and community, including administrative level City / County / State / Federal officials.
Working Conditions
Light physical effort; intermittent sitting, standing, and walking. Comfortable working conditions.
Regular exposure to stressful situations due to human behavior and position demands.
Working hours may vary; occasional weekend work and overtime may be required.
