Position Summary
- Student Activities Specialist
Under the supervision of the Director of Student Leadership, the Student Activities Specialist is responsible for building community and a sense of belonging through student programs and activities. This role supports students achieving leadership skills / outcomes and fosters student's development and growth. This position also works closely with the Student Engagement Specialist to encourage collaboration between student organizations and all other campus programs and departments.
This position oversees the recruitment, training and supervision of the College Activities Board (CAB), the student board (6-8 student employees) that assists student clubs, boards, and committees in the implementation of student programming, activities, and involvement opportunities.
What you will be working on : Student Activities Specialist
Program Management
Serve as primary advisor of the College Activities Board and represent college activities across campus.Advise, train, and supervise student employees involved with the College Activities Board.Plan and execute student events, programs, trainings, workshops, lectures, and discussions that promote student engagement in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.Understand and train staff in event management : scheduling, facilities, setup, tear-down, risk assessment, volunteer coordination, ordering supplies / equipment, budgeting, paying vendors, and marketing & promotions.Lead quarterly Student Leadership Events such as Welcome Week, Resource Fairs, Open House, De-Stress Days.Lead Annual Signature events such as Halloween, Teacher Appreciation, Lunar New Year, Unity Fair, Student Leadership Recognition.Assist with the development and monitoring of College Activities Board budgets; create and submit annual budget proposals and program reports to S&A budget committee; track expenditures, monitor budget balances, ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures, and advise Director on any necessary changes.Performs complex scheduling and approval of reservations in 25Live for special events, locations, and resources managed by Student Leadership.Cultural Programming and Development
Design and implement an effective and intentional outreach plan to engage all students from diverse backgrounds and experiences in campus activities and events.Create student success programming opportunities to help students be successful, engaged, and involved in student leadership programs.Create community building programs and partnerships to support the success of high priority students (through cultural celebrations, heritage months, club support, affinity group meet-ups, etc.).Develop collaborative relationships with faculty and staff to create a cohesive, campus-wide activities program.Training & Education
Prepare and plan Summer Training & Orientation for Student Leaders : Pre-Fall Training Series in collaboration with the Director of Student LeadershipMeet one-on-one and in group settings with student leaders to advise and train them regarding program / activity content, policies and procedures, financial accounting, and event planning.Train student staff on all matters related to planning, execution, risk-management, and evaluation of student events and activities.Implement a leadership workshop development series for student leaders, club officers, and students-at-large throughout the year.Provide education and support for helping student staff learn about online technology and applications that boost productivity and work efficiencies.Departmental Functions
Create and maintain systems for providing campus wide information regarding student activities, events, and opportunities, specifically through creation / coordination of Student Activities Calendar.Work with Student Leadership Director to set departmental / programmatic goals and on-going process improvement planning, reporting, and assessment.Work with Student Leadership staff for student staff recruitment, selection, onboarding, orientation, and training season (typically held during the Spring, Summer and Fall quarters).Collaborate with other programs on campus, Student Leadership at North Seattle College / South Seattle College, District staff, and community partners to provide CAB with professional development and partnerships.Attend weekly Student Leadership staff meetings.Represent Student Leadership at CUSP events.This description is not intended to cover every aspect of this job, we are a team that works together to meet the needs of those we serve, and every member of the team is expected to contribute, even beyond the specific responsibilities listed in this posting.
