The CNC Programmer and Operator is a key contributor within Wendover Art Group's in-house fabrication team, responsible for transforming digital designs into precisely machined components used in the creation of custom artwork and framing solutions. This role is equal parts technical expertise and creative craftsmanship, combining advanced CNC programming with hands-on machine operation to ensure the efficient production of high-quality, design-driven products.
Working closely with the production, engineering, and design teams, the CNC Programmer and Operator translates CAD files into optimized toolpaths, sets up and operates CNC routers, and continuously refines processes to improve productivity and maintain Wendover's exacting quality standards. Key Responsibilities
Programming & Setup
- Create and optimize CNC programs based on CAD / CAM files using software such as VCarve, Fusion 360, or equivalent.
- Plan and configure machine setups for maximum efficiency, accuracy, and material usage.
- Select appropriate tooling, fixturing, and cutting parameters based on material specifications and design intent.
Machine Operation
Operate CNC routers to cut, route, and shape a variety of substrates, including wood, acrylic, foam board, and composite materials.Monitor machine performance and ensure consistent, high-quality output across production runs.Perform in-process inspections and post-production quality checks using calipers, gauges, and visual assessments.Productivity & Workflow Optimization
Identify and implement process improvements to increase throughput and reduce waste or downtime.Collaborate with production and engineering teams to streamline fabrication methods and reduce cycle times.Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked work areas to support continuous productivity.Documentation & Data Management
Maintain accurate records of CNC programs, setup sheets, tool usage logs, and material consumption.Document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for CNC processes and contribute to internal knowledge databases.Track and report production metrics, job completion times, and material yields to support performance analysis.Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Perform routine maintenance on CNC machinery to prevent unplanned downtime.Troubleshoot mechanical or software issues and coordinate repairs as needed.Monitor tool wear and machine calibration, making adjustments as necessary.Skills and Traits Necessary for Success

2+ years of hands-on CNC programming and operating experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.Proficient in CAM software (e.g., VCarve, Fusion 360, or Mastercam) and G-code.Strong understanding of material behaviors, cutting tools, and machining principles.Comfortable interpreting engineering drawings, CAD files, and technical schematics.Highly organized with experience documenting procedures and tracking production data.Excellent problem-solving skills with a mindset focused on productivity and quality.Mechanically inclined with attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship.High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or certifications preferred.
