Position Description :
The Teacher Assistant supports other DAAS educators and scholars and contributes to a positive learning environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about education, possesses excellent interpersonal skills, and is committed to helping scholars achieve their full potential.
Requirements :
- Associate’s Degree or higher, or :
Completion of at least two (2) years of study at an institution of higher learning, equal to sixty (60) semester hours
ETS Paraprofessional Assessment (a passing score of 460 or greater)College Board’s SAT – Must score at least a 480 on evidence-based reading and writing and a 530 on mathPassing scores on a prior state-approved assessment :Passing scores in Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Writing via Workkeys
Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) Basic Skills TestMTTC Professional Readiness ExaminationPast experience working with school age youth preferredDemonstrated ability to work well with students, families and staffPhysical Requirements : Light Work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and / or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects; Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling.
Terms of Employment : Part time, 35 hours per week. Hourly wage shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
Evaluation : Performance of this job will be evaluated by the School Principal in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain a professional relationship with supervisors, staff, families, students and the publicWork independently and in teams to complete job duties and assignments in a timely mannerMonitor and manage student behavior, ensuring a safe and respectful classroom atmosphere.Supervise and monitor student safety during arrival and dismissal, lunch, hallways, and other duties as assignedSupport students with diverse learning needs by providing additional help and encouragement as needed.Help with administrative tasks such as grading assignments, maintaining student records, and organizing classroom materials.Collaborate with teachers to plan and implement instructional strategies that align with the curriculum and support student learning objectives.Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to team meetings and school events.Under the direction of the classroom teacher, assist individual and small groups of students with the development of specific academic skills, project completion, or the management of assigned class work;Adhere to and maintain all DAAS policies and procedures;Other duties and responsibilities as directed by the classroom Teacher or Building PrincipalSkills, Knowledge and Expertise
Previous experience working with children in an educational setting is highly desirable.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities efficiently.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, teachers, and parents.Ability to adapt to the diverse needs of students and support their academic and social / emotional development.Demonstrate a strong commitment to punctuality and regular attendance, ensuring you arrive on time for your scheduled shifts and complete your work consistently.
