We are seeking a Bridge Inspector to join our team in Mobile County, AL.
Job Title : Bridge Inspector (Levels I Senior)
Overview
As a Bridge Inspector, you will play a crucial role in ensuring construction quality, materials testing, and fabrication oversight for an exciting infrastructure project. This position offers the opportunity to work on advanced bridge construction techniques and be part of the Owner's Verification (OV) team. Various levels are available based on experience, certifications, and professional interests.
Key Responsibilities
Field Inspection & Oversight
Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with construction documents and ALDOTs Construction Quality Management Plan (CQMP).
Review and validate inspection and materials testing conducted by the Independent Quality Firm (IQF).
Submit detailed daily reports using SYNCHRO and other ALDOT-authorized systems.
Perform or witness field tests on various materials.
Track and audit non-conformance reports, RFIs, and corrective actions.
Fabrication & Casting Yard Oversight
Inspect casting yards and fabrication shops to monitor the production process of various bridge components.
Ensure compliance with approved shop drawings and specifications.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain project records and assist with audit preparation.
Support Project Engineers with verification testing and field reviews.
Contribute to compliance documentation and reports.
Collaboration & Mentorship
Collaborate with senior staff, project engineers, and ALDOT to uphold OV standards.
Coordinate with other teams on field activities.
Provide mentorship to junior inspectors (Senior level).
Position Levels & Qualifications
Level I (Entry)
High school diploma or GED.
02 years experience in construction inspection or materials testing.
Certifications : ACI Concrete Technician, ALDOT Certification, Asphalt Roadway Technician, Work Zone Safety.
Passion for bridge and transportation inspection practices.
Level II (Intermediate)
35 years experience in bridge or roadway inspection.
Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related field preferred.
Certifications may include : ACI / ALDOT Concrete Technician, Post-Tension Institute (PTI) Level I & II, ASBI Grouting Technician, Asphalt Technician (Lab / Roadway), Radiological Safety, CWI, or Qualified Credentialed Inspector depending on assignment.
Senior Level (Advanced)
8+ years experience in bridge inspection, structural steel fabrication, or casting yard oversight.
Expertise in bridge systems, QA / QC documentation, and construction techniques.
Professional licensure (PE) or NICET Level III preferred.
Experience in post-tensioning, grouting, or segmental bridge construction highly valued.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
This role involves fieldwork, including walking on uneven surfaces, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in variable weather conditions. Night and weekend shifts may be required. Accommodations will be provided as needed.
