The Network Security Team, part of the VMware by Broadcom - Advanced Network & Security Division (ANSD), is on a mission to meet this challenge by delivering powerful, cutting-edge Network Detection and Response (NDR) capabilities.

Our team is responsible for developing, maintaining, and testing the Network Detection and Response capabilities for the VMware vDefend Advanced Threat Prevention (ATP), a cutting-edge networking and security analytics solution for detecting and preventing advanced threats.

This is an opportunity for you to collaborate closely with a group of talented engineers and security experts in an established team.

Success in the Role

What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

• Architect and Implement Scalable Detection and Correlation Pipelines and Services Develop high-performance network detection and correlation pipelines and API services using Python, with SQL and NoSQL storage backends, ensuring robust cybersecurity analytics and system reliability.
• Develop High-Throughput Data Streaming Solutions Build scalable and robust data-processing pipelines for network detection data using Kafka messaging.
• Enhance and Extend System Components with Golang and Java Utilize Golang to optimize and expand core services, improving performance and scalability, with potential future applications in detection solutions. Apply Java expertise to integrate with and maintain compatibility with legacy systems, ensuring seamless interoperability across platforms.
• Lead Deployment and Automation in Kubernetes Environments Oversee the productization and deployment of detection components within Kubernetes (K8s) using Docker and Helm, enabling seamless integration, automation, and scaling of cybersecurity tools.
• Develop and Improve Network-Based Detection and Correlation Techniques Leverage deep expertise in networking protocols (including VPN inner workings, TCP / UDP, and HTTP) to enhance network-based detection techniques and improve overall security efficacy.
• Develop and Maintain CI / CD Pipelines for Detection Components Build, extend, and troubleshoot CI / CD workflows using Jenkins and other automation tools, improving reliability, efficiency, and speed in software delivery.
• Package and Deploy Software for Production Environments Utilize the Deb packaging system to ensure seamless deployment on Linux systems within Docker containers, optimizing software distribution and production efficiency.
• Foster Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing Build strong relationships across engineering teams, actively contributing to knowledge-sharing initiatives to help colleagues understand complex technical concepts.
• Educate and Engage with Internal and External Stakeholders Equip customer-facing teams with technical expertise to enhance product understanding and support. Act as a domain expert in customer presentations and technical sessions, effectively communicating security solutions and best practices to maximize deployment effectiveness.

The Work

Our team's work life is very dynamic. A brief stand-up / sync-up meeting each day helps us connect, share progress, ask for help, or determine how to best collaborate and tackle the challenges we face. With our game plan in place, we jump into execution and continue collaboration via asynchronous communication.

Once every two weeks, we convene, discuss, and choose our commitments for the upcoming Sprint. Each team member self-manages and self-prioritizes work based on team objectives. You will use Jira to track your work, Confluence for documentation, GitHub for code reviews, Google Chat for a-sync communication, and many other tools that you may already have experience with or can easily pick up.

This role is based in the Palo Alto, CA, office.

Education / Experience

Bachelor's degree in engineering / computer science and 12+ years of related experience or Masters degree in engineering / computer science and 10+ years of related experience

Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary range for this position is $141,000 - $225,000. This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in accordance with relevant plan documents, and equity in accordance with equity plan documents and equity award agreements.
