Position Overview

This position has two business areas to cover as has been required at HDUSA thus far.

The Manager, Business Development in Land Systems will identify opportunities in the artillery market for HDUSA (Hanwha Defense USA). This position will establish appropriate strategies and milestones aligned with the organization’s long-term growth and objectives. This position also requires understanding customer’s desires and values to develop business opportunities. In addition, this position carries on accumulating market intelligence, technical trends, and industrial changes. Finally, it is necessary to explore a new partnership to capture the right business opportunities.

The Manager, Business Development in PGM will be responsible for new sales of products through B2B and B2G channels. The sales portfolio ranges from simple energetic / explosive materials to full-scale missiles / bombs. The activities will require a significant level of understanding of the products’ technical aspects. A candidate must be familiar with federal business opportunities and bidding process and serve as the bridge between HDUSA and USG stakeholders. Beyond sales of finished goods, a candidate should also capture, develop, and manage partnership opportunities with major US defense industry players. This will involve gathering market intelligence on industry players’ portfolio and pin-pointing opportunities where two parties can mutually benefit from.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Self-driven to source new business opportunities through individual efforts of marketing, and expand / strengthen customer network. Understands customers’ values and promptly responds to their needs. Seeks out and researches prospective programs through phone calls, travel, tactical / strategic customer visits attending conferences, and utilizing the Internet to grow, and influence, the relationships and opportunities.
  • Develops win strategies for programs to be bid, including price, technical and business considerations. Must be comfortable writing proposals to Government sourcing opportunities.
  • Estimates demand for proposed programs based on production schedules, market research, and consumer trends.
  • Develops strategies for establishing partnerships / cooperation with US defense industry players and USG—could be for specific products and programs. Identifies, screens, and qualifies viable business opportunities, increasing share of market and obtaining a competitive position in the industry. Executes the plan according to set milestones.
  • Works closely with internal departments in Korea, such as overseas business team and production plants, to align business objectives and future strategies, orders forecast and business models
  • Responsible for establishing, developing and demonstrating at trade shows that showcase product portfolios in industry trade associations
  • Provides support to upper management in deal negotiations, contract development, due diligence, and other business development or alliance development projects
  • Keeps the leadership team informed of product development opportunities and strategies
  • Ensures further development, tracking of strategic initiatives / projects.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Experience

  • 2 years+ of relevant engineering experience
  • 6 years+ of experience in the Defense Industry, primarily in business development or program management
  • Experience with US DoD acquisition process
  • Education

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering
  • Special Knowledge / Skills :

  • Has the ability to interpret technical specifications and / or requirements
  • Excellent business acumen
  • Proficient Computer knowledge and skills, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, with ability to independently use Microsoft Office Programs including but not limited to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work harmoniously in a multi-cultural team environment.
  • Ability to gather, interpret, and analyze data and present in a clear manner.
  • Physical Demands / Work Environment :

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally over 30% of the time
  • Flexibility in work hours to accommodate communication with departments in Korea
  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer. Must be able to lift 20 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
