Inpatient Pharmacy Intern

Job Summary :

Following established policies and procedures, Pharmacy Intern 1 performs technical, distributive, and administrative duties. This individual may receive, sort, compound, process and prepare medication orders under the supervision of a pharmacist. As the intern progresses, and demonstrates an increase in ability, the preceptor will grant increased responsibility. Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities :

• Inventory management : Restock automated dispensing cabinets and check for expired medications
• Medication delivery : Safely transport medications to patient care units
• Medication history collection : Complete medication histories through direct patient interviews
• Medication counseling (as training progresses) : Provide discharge medication counseling under pharmacist supervision
• Team collaboration : Work closely with pharmacists, technicians, nurses, and providers

EDUCATION DESCRIPTION :

High School diploma or equivalent is required. Accepted to a doctor of pharmacy program at a degree granting institution or enrolled in their first year of a doctor of pharmacy program at a degree granting institution.

TRAINING DESCRIPTION :

Must complete a competency checklist within three months of completing orientation and training sessions.

SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION :

Ability to communicate effectively with other health care professionals and patients. Ability to prioritize responsibilities in order to optimize patient care and minimize adverse outcomes.

LICENSURE DESCRIPTION :

Application for Wisconsin registration as a Pharmacy Technician is required by hire date and must be obtained within 12 months of hire. Staff hired into this role prior to 3 / 31 / 23 must have applied for Wisconsin registration by 3 / 31 / 23 and have until 3 / 31 / 24 to obtain registration.
