The Designer Moldmaker Sr leads the design and build of complex plastic injection molds, managing projects with a fast-paced, concurrent design / build approach. Expert in CAD / CAM tools, this role designs intricate molds with multiple angled shutoffs, cavities, core pull actions, lifters, and two-stage knockouts. The position requires managing multiple projects and collaborating closely with product engineers, managers, inspectors, and process engineers to ensure quality, cost, and delivery goals are met. Focused on continuous improvement, the role also drives process enhancements to reduce lead times and costs.

What You Will Do

  • Mold design activities.
  • Process planning and documentation.
  • Manage project and support programming / fabrication activities.
  • Complete polishing and mold assembly activities to prepare mold for testing.
  • Complete machining such as milling, EDM, and grinding to eliminate queue time and facilitate rapid mold build approach.
  • Complete debug work and facilitate testing / optimization / certification of mold tooling.
  • Quoting and planning of new mold projects.
  • Work with management to facilitate project administration, develop schedule / budget, kickoff projects, maintain measures, and closeout projects.

What You Will Bring

  • High school diploma required.
  • 10 years’ experience in mold making with experience designing complex molded parts.
  • Strong machining and fabrication experience.
  • Working knowledge of CNC machine tool procedures and manual tool room processes.
  • Knowledge of current CAM procedures and practices.
  • Understanding of mold and dies designs, and properties to mold / die tool steels.
  • Experience with Unigraphics CAD / CAM system design / drafting and detail drafting modules.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs 1-5 times a day.

    • Compensation : The expected base pay range for this role is $44 - $55 an hour. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
