About The Position

Practice Setting : Inpatient Hospital Setting

📝 Description

We are seeking an experienced Inpatient Gastroenterologist to provide locum tenens coverage at a Massachusetts medical center beginning in mid-December 2025 . This opportunity arises due to a retirement and will continue until a permanent placement is made.

The provider will manage inpatient consults, perform scheduled endoscopic procedures, and cover 24 / 7 pager responsibilities during their assigned week. Outpatient responsibilities are not required .

💼 Job Responsibilities

Provide inpatient gastroenterology consults (Floor / ED / ICU)

Perform scheduled endoscopies and colonoscopies (Mon–Fri)

Manage emergent inpatient procedures as needed

Carry a pager for 24 / 7 coverage Friday 4 PM → Friday 4 PM

See 2–5 new consults per day with follow-ups

Document all encounters in EPIC EMR

Perform required procedures including :

Esophageal dilatation / manometry and interpretation

Small bowel and liver biopsies

Lower GI endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy

Upper GI endoscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic)

PEG placement, variceal banding / injection, foreign body removal, and cautery

EUS / ERCP not required, but ERCP certification is a plus.

🎓 Qualifications

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology (BC preferred)

Active Massachusetts Medical License – required

BLS Certification – required

ERCP Certification – nice to have, not required

Experience in inpatient gastroenterology and endoscopy

Strong clinical judgment and communication skills

⏰ Working Hours

Schedule : Friday 4 PM – Friday 4 PM (1 week per month)

Call Structure : Pager coverage 24 / 7 for assigned week

Weekdays : Routine endoscopies + consults

Weekends : Short rounding for new consults (rare emergent in-hospital cases)

Emergency / Temp Privileges : Not available

🛠️ Skills

Proficient in inpatient gastroenterology and endoscopic procedures

Able to manage complex inpatient consults independently

Comfortable with EPIC EMR

Strong organizational and communication skills

💰 Compensation

Rate : $17,500 per week

Applicable Rate Type : 24-hour on-call coverage during assigned week
