- Client Adapter Integration : Provide expert-level guidance and hands-on experience
Key aspects of DOCSIS :
Purpose : Allows cable operators to offer broadband internet without installing a completely new physical network infrastructure like fiber to the home (FTTH).Infrastructure : Operates over HFC networks, which combine fiber optic cables for the main distribution lines and coaxial cables for the final connection to the customer premises.Evolution : The standard has evolved significantly through versions like DOCSIS 3.0, 3.1, and the emerging 4.0, which enable increasingly faster speeds (up to 10 Gbps downstream in DOCSIS 4.0) to compete with fiber optic services.SONU (Spectrum Optical Network Unit)
"SONU" is a specific term used by the internet service provider Spectrum, standing for Spectrum Optical Network Unit.
Key aspects of SONU :
Purpose : Refers to a modem (or gateway) used in a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network, specifically by Spectrum, to connect a customer's home network to the fiber optic line. The generic industry term for this device is Optical Network Unit (ONU) or Optical Network Terminal (ONT).Infrastructure : Operates over a full fiber optic network, not the HFC network used by DOCSIS. Fiber networks use light pulses to transmit data, offering very high speeds and lower latency compared to traditional coaxial cable systems.
