American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med / Surg OrthoGeneral Surgical unit night position requiring orthopedic experience and WA or compact RN license.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in a 40-bed OrthoGeneral Surgical unit within a Level III trauma hospitalPatient population includes general medical (pneumonia, sepsis, CHF, COPD, AKI, DVT, PE, dialysis, COVID) and orthopedic surgical casesNo neuro or cardiothoracic patient care requiredPatient ratios are 1 : 4-5 based on acuity and may include mixed COVID and non-COVID assignmentsSpecialized procedures include postop surgical care, total joint replacements, epidurals, PCA, ketamine drips, wound vacs, PICO drains, colostomy takedowns, bowel resections, and urological procedures like TURPOccasional requirement for cardiac rhythm strip interpretation with training providedUses Epic for charting, as well as Alaris and Pyxis equipmentWork schedule consists of 12-hour night shifts with varied weekend requirements based on unit needsFloat to other Med / Surg units or ED holding as neededCentralized telemetry monitoring and 24 / 7 hospitalist and RT supportResponsibilities include managing post-surgical and medical patients, administering IV antibiotics, managing drains and ostomies, performing dressing changes, and documenting pain assessmentsTeam support includes CNAs, a free-floating charge RN, a flex nurse for admissions, discharges, and breaks, and centralized telemetryThree days of orientation provided (two days hospital-wide, one day unit-specific)Scrubs of any color permittedFirst-time travelers may be considered upon review for unit fitParking is free for staffNo phones allowed on the unit; breaks are requiredMust fill out white boards in patient rooms and complete bedside handoff reportsHoliday and weekend coverage may be required according to unit staffing needs\n \n Requirements\n
Active WA or compact RN license requiredMinimum two years of experience in a med / surg setting, with orthopedic experience requiredCurrent BLS certification requiredEpic EMR experience preferred; manager approval required if no prior Epic experienceTime management and strong communication skills requiredMust pass a rhythm interpretation exam before startingCompletion and passing of traveler telemetry competency required prior to start\n Benefits\n
