Senior Environmental Scientist – Natural Resources
Spangler Environmental, LLC is a consulting firm serving land developers, engineers, architects, attorneys and governmental agencies throughout the Southeast. We are looking for a qualified candidate to join our team as a Senior Environmental Scientist within our Natural Resources practice.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Oversee and ensure the accurate, efficient and technically defensible completion of :
- Delineations of wetlands and waters pursuant to US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), state and local protocols;
- Technical memos and reports summarizing the findings of field evaluations and / or research and provide recommendations that best meet client needs;
- Threatened and endangered species investigations and accompanying reports;
- 401 / 404 permit applications; obtain project-related documents from state and local agencies;
- Advise clients on stream and wetland-related issues and serve as the liaison with regulatory agencies for permitting projects;
- Oversee and manage technical components of staff scientists’ responsibilities;
- Ensure that projects / tasks are completed on time, within budget and with technically / legally defensible results / documentation ;
- Provide business development support;
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in an environmental or related field of study;Minimum five years’ experience performing wetland and Waters of the US delineations pursuant to USACE protocols and stream origin delineations per NCDWR / TDEC protocols, with a history of interacting with regulatory personnel, resulting in JD concurrence;In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, particularly Clean Water Act sections 404 and 401, Endangered Species Act sections 10 and 7, and NEPA;Minimum three years’ experience overseeing and managing junior staff;In-depth knowledge of ArcGIS, including geo-spatial analytics;Willingness and ability to independently and successfully schedule, oversee and complete outdoor / overnight field work throughout the Southeast, in variable weather conditions (cold, rain, heat, etc.), sometimes on short notice;Strong written and verbal communication skills, including overseeing / editing others’ work;Strong Microsoft Office skills;Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.Preferred Qualifications :
NCDWR / TDEC stream origin training / certification ;NCWAM / NCSAM training / certification ;Stream and / or wetland restoration site identification, analysis, design, construction oversight and monitoring experience;AutoCAD and other mapping / design / graphics software experience;Erosion control / NPDES compliance inspection and design experience / certification.Full-time position with benefits. Starting salary based on experience. Some overnight travel required. Must be able to work outdoors in variable weather and site conditions.
