Dustin’s Place provides compassionate, research-based grief support for children, teens, and families. Our mission is simple : no one grieves alone. We offer peer-support groups, school-based programming, and community outreach that give grieving children a safe place to heal alongside others who understand.
We are expanding our services in South Bend and are seeking a dedicated and community-minded Director of Community Care to join our team.
Position Overview
The Director of Community Care is a key role responsible for expanding children’s grief-support programming throughout South Bend. This first-of-its-kind, full-time position will lead grief-support groups in schools and community centers, support evening programs at Dustin’s Place in Plymouth, and help build strong partnerships across the community. The role also oversees 3–4 part-time Community-Based Child Grief Specialists.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate approximately 15–18 children’s grief-support groups per week in South Bend schools and community organizationsLead evening children’s groups during Family Nights at Dustin’s Place (Plymouth location)Collaborate with Program Director to deliver age-appropriate, research-supported programmingBuild and strengthen relationships with schools, youth organizations, and community partnersRepresent Dustin’s Place at community events and outreach opportunitiesProvide support and guidance to part-time Community-Based Child Grief SpecialistsParticipate in staff meetings, training, and organizational development opportunitiesQualifications
Bachelor’s degree required (preferred fields : social work, child development, education, art therapy, psychology, or related)3–5 years of experience working directly with children (experience within South Bend strongly preferred)Strong communication and relationship-building skillsAbility to manage a flexible schedule, including some eveningsReliable transportation for travel between school and program sitesCommitment to Dustin’s Place values : Compassionate, Trustworthy, Community-Focused, Inclusive, and SafeCompensation & Benefits
