DESCRIPTION

The Professor, Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HART) is a full-time nine-month faculty position responsible to the department chair, director, and the Dean of Skilled Trades. A HART Instructor develops and delivers curriculum, assesses student progress, and maintains a safe and effective learning environment for students pursuing careers in the HVAC / R field. They combine theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on training to prepare students for industry demands.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

This position may require day and / or evening hours. Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Create and update lesson plans, syllabi, and course materials, ensuring alignment with industry standards and best practices
  • Provide practical, hands-on training in HVAC / R systems, demonstrating proper techniques for installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Assess student learning through exams, assignments, and practical evaluations, providing feedback and guidance for improvement.
  • Emphasize and enforce safety protocols and ensure students are aware of relevant regulations and codes.
  • Offer guidance and support to students, helping them navigate the curriculum, address academic challenges, and explore career opportunities.
  • Collaborate with industry professionals to stay current with trends, secure materials, and provide students with real-world insights.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and productive learning environment.
  • Maintaining labs and equipment related to the courses.
  • Recruiting and advising students for the HVAC program.
  • Networking with industry partners for program advisement and student job placement.
  • Keeping certification requirements current.
  • Participating in professional development to stay current in industry and latest hybrid learning methodology and teaching best practices.
  • Promoting the development and scheduling of continuing education courses as needed.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the dean and / or director.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate Degree in HVAC or related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum three years work experience required.
  • Must be proficient in HVAC / R technology in gas combustion, refrigeration, electrical systems, and controls.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information and provide constructive feedback required.
  • EPA 608 Certification required.
  • State licensure or technician certification preferred, or a passing score on a TJC-provided skills assessment exam required.
