Mechanical Apprenticeship Program

Program Overview :

Gopher Resource has a very rare opportunity for 2 mechanical apprentices to join the maintenance team at our Eagan plant. Working alongside fully qualified Mechanics to learn the skills of the trade, the apprenticeship program is designed to train and prepare apprentices to be Maintenance Mechanics at Gopher Resource. Starting pay for apprentices is $36.45 / hour and increases to $37.95 / hour on December 1, 2025. This position is also eligible for full benefits including healthcare, matching 401k, PTO, bonus potential, and tuition reimbursement.

The apprenticeship program is 24 months of on-the-job training, classroom training, and self-study, with the goal of qualifying the apprentice to meet the requirements for Maintenance Mechanic I within the company upon successful completion of the program.

Work Schedule :

During the course of this program, apprentices will work a variety of schedules which will include Monday-Friday days, 6am-6pm on a 4 on / 4 off schedule, and 6pm-6am on a 4 on / 4 off schedule.

Mechanical Apprenticeship Responsibilities :

  • Assist with a variety of duties including installing equipment, maintaining mechanical systems, and repairing machinery.
  • Complete classroom training and self-guided study relating to various mechanical systems and components of the plant.

Requirements :

  • High School Diploma or GED minimally required
  • Current enrollment in OR completion of a 2-year technical postsecondary program with an accredited school
  • Previous maintenance and / or mechanical experience (or related experience in an undergrad academic program)
  • Ability to pass all pre-employment tests which include : mechanical aptitude test, background check, drug screen, and physical
  • Willingness and ability to wear a full-face respirator mask, work in a hot / high temperature production facility, and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Willingness and ability to comply with safety protocols and company-provided decontamination measures which include utilizing private shower facilities upon leaving the plant environment with or without reasonable accommodation

    • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred, but not required
  • 2-year technical degree from accredited school strongly preferred, but not required
