Security Officer
The Security Officer position is responsible for the day to day activities of ensuring a safe and secure Children's campus. The Security Officer will maintain a safe environment through patrol of the hospital, grounds and outlying buildings. He / She will respond to all calls both emergency and non-emergency as they occur or in order of importance. The Security Officer's core role is to promote a safe environment for patients, visitors and hospital employees.
- Must possess a valid driver's license (must meet minimum criteria of Children's Minnesota Fleet Safety Management policy).
- Must be able to successfully pass background checks of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and Department of Human Services (DHS).
- Must be able to prepare verbal and written reports.
- Good verbal, writing and computer skills required.
- Must complete and pass use of force training within 30 days of hire.
- Must complete and pass Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training within 90 days of hire.
- Must be able to wear respiratory protection (N-95 respirator, full face respirator and PAPR), be fit tested and able to pass respirator physical.Education :
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Business, Psychology or Sociology preferred.Experience :
- Prior experience responding and intervening in emergency situations such as crisis de-escalation, intervention, detainment of suspects, reporting and investigating incidents, and enforcing organizational policy preferred.
- Prior Law Enforcement or security experience preferred.
- Emergency Operations Center experience preferred.
- Healthcare knowledge / experience preferred.License / Certification Preferences :
- POST skills completed, International Association of Hospital Safety and Security (Basic), First Responder, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or OSHA first responder certifications preferred.
- Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), a plus.Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills a must.
- Ability to work independently and as a team.

- Ability to retain knowledge, information, and directions on an ongoing basis and communicate effectively with others.
- Ability to comprehend numerous policies, procedures, concepts and to be able to make decisions using discretion and interpretive judgment based on general and specific policies.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Must be customer service oriented.
- Knowledge of verbal and physical de-escalation, use of force continuum and arrest laws preferred.
- Ability to walk and climb stairs.
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions.
- Skill in operating portable radio devices.
- Ability to detect irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards and emergency situations.
- Effectively contacts and interacts with emergency responders, such as police, fire, and / or ambulance personnel as required.
- Ability to restrain or subdue an individual.
- Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
