About the Role and Team :

OpenClinica accelerates healthcare innovation by increasing the productivity of clinical research through an innovative software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution. We’re looking for a passionate, analytically-driven, and strategic finance professional to own the company’s day-to-day financial management functions. In this role, it will be your mission to streamline our bookkeeping, budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting processes. You will work directly with all levels of management, to help improve our operational efficiency and aid in our continued growth by providing analysis on various reports. This role offers a lot of variety, and demands a smart, highly organized, and detailed individual who can carry out day-to-day bookkeeping functions while maintaining accounting principles, internal controls, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

  • Reports to : Vice President of Finance

What You Will Do :

Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including profit & loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.

Provide detailed financial analysis to guide decision-making processes, including variance analysis, profitability assessments, and cost control.

Ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other applicable regulatory standards.

Lead the annual budgeting process and maintain updated forecasts, working closely with department heads.

Systematically keep department heads appraised of their actual spend vs. budget on a regular basis.

Provide insights into financial performance and recommend strategies to meet financial goals and targets.

Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with financial regulations and safeguard company assets.

Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.

Coordinate and manage external audits and ensure timely completion with accurate financial disclosures.

Oversee cash management functions, including monitoring company cash flow, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

Ensure the company maintains sufficient liquidity to meet operational and strategic needs.

Supervise and mentor the accounting and finance team, providing guidance and support for professional growth and development.

Coordinate the efforts of the finance team to ensure alignment with company goals and objectives.

Evaluate and implement accounting / ERP systems to streamline the company’s financial operations.

Ensure that the company’s eClinical software usage is integrated with financial systems and processes, ensuring smooth operations.

Recommend improvements to financial systems and software to further optimize reporting, forecasting, and financial management processes.

Work closely with senior leadership to provide financial insights and support long-term strategic planning.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure financial alignment with business objectives and project timelines.

Oversee all tax-related matters, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.

Coordinate preparation and filing of all corporate tax returns.

Qualifications : Required :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA License
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in an accounting or financial management role, including a minimum of 4 years in a leadership role
  • SaaS Industry Experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and regulatory compliance
  • Superb proficiency with Quickbooks Online and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with subscription revenue recognition (ASC 606), SaaS metrics, and ERP implementation
  • Preferred :

  • Experience working within the SaaS industry or technology sector
  • Advanced degree such as an MBA or Master’s in Finance or Accounting
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite
  • Experience managing audit processes and working with external auditors
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing and developing accounting teams
  • Skills :

    The Controller will utilize strong analytical skills daily to interpret complex financial data and generate actionable insights that drive business strategy. Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems will enable efficient management of financial records and reporting processes. Effective communication skills are essential for collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders, including auditors. Leadership and mentoring skills will be applied to guide and develop the accounting team, ensuring accuracy and compliance in all financial operations. Additionally, problem-solving abilities will be critical in identifying financial risks and implementing controls to mitigate them.
