Summary
The Assistant Director of Field Communications plays a key role on the Strategic Communications team to develop and lead communications strategies and solutions to inform, educate, and influence our field and home office audiences related to Northwestern Mutual’s insurance products, sales and service. You’ll collaborate across business partners and stakeholders within Insurance Solutions, Sales Enablement, and Strategic Communications to help strengthen field awareness, understanding, conviction, and action for our industry-leading risk product suite (Life insurance, Disability Income insurance, annuities, and Long-Term Care coverage), annual Dividend announcement, and national sales enablement programs.
This is a dynamic role that will enable you to directly contribute to the company’s top business priorities and deliver our Strategic Communications value proposition to target audiences through thought partnership, strategic counsel, impactful storytelling, and expert communications content.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Designs and implements communications strategies and plans to help business partners achieve their priorities.
Consults with senior-level leaders on communication strategy and provides thoughtful communications counsel to help solve and meet business challenges.
Ability to lead a communications strategist / formal supervisory responsibility
Advises and influences others within the Field communications center of excellence to deliver timely communications to advance our communication goals and objectives.
Develops metrics / measures to evaluate the effectiveness of communication and assess the return on communication investment.
Works independently with guidance on only the most complex situations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, master’s degree preferred.
8 or more years of experience in professional communication, public relations, organizational communication, marketing or related communication field.
Demonstrated skills in project management and prioritization of deadlines.
Ability to navigate and tolerate ambiguity.
Superior verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to develop complex communications strategies and plans.
Ability to listen to, engage, and influence others; synthesize and relate complex information; and develop and implement integrated communications strategies.
Ability to adapt style and build consensus with senior leaders.
Ability to lead others to solve complex problems and analyze information make innovative business decisions.
Previous supervisory / leadership experience preferred.
