Senior Manager, Business Operations

Summary

The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine seeks an experienced and strategic Senior Manager of Business Operations to lead the divisions of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Cardiothoracic Transplantation and Circulatory Support. This position will be responsible for the daily operations, budgeting, and business planning activities that support the department’s clinical, educational, and research missions. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, analytical, and organizational skills to drive operational excellence in a dynamic academic medical environment.

The role is expected to act as the highest ranking administrative staff member in the Department of Surgery geographically located in the THI Cooley Building at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, as such, this should be considered an in-person role.

Job Duties

• Serves as the leader for the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery which includes the day-to-day business operations for the educational, research, and clinical aspects of the division. (25%)
• Serves as leader for the Division of Cardiothoracic Transplantation and Circulatory Support which includes the day-to-day business operations for the educational, research, and clinical aspects of the division. (25%)
• Manages professional level staff and Advanced Practice Providers by establishing and defining work responsibilities, setting performance development plans, conducting performance evaluations, and addressing HR-related issues (including hiring, terminations, salary adjustments, and disciplinary actions). (15%)
• Manages financial operations for the Divisions including productivity reporting, budget implementation, forecasting, processing supplemental payments, and collaborating with Department leadership to promote revenue growth and control expenses. (15%)
• Manages clinical operations for the divisions to include establishing staffing plans, assessing patient satisfaction and developing improvement plans, schedules, and productivity guidelines. (10%)
• Partners with faculty to ensure College revenue cycle goals are met by implementing process improvement for obtaining insurance authorizations and timely closure of clinic and operative notes to maximize the net collection rate and minimize denials, bad debt, and outstanding A / R for surgical cases and clinical activity at BSLMC. (5%)
• Implements quality improvement practices in outpatient clinics to increase patient volumes and efficient throughput and work with clinical staff to develop standard operating procedures to create a uniform and positive patient experience across all clinics. (5%)
• May assist with or manage special projects.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
