DESCRIPTION
The UNIX administrator is responsible for UNIX or Linux environments, including the operating system software and its successful integration with the hardware and applications software of the major computing systems across the organization. The UNIX Administrator preserves and revises documentation on the configuration of the operating systems.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
- Plans interfaces to external systems.
- Creates test plans and procedures.
- Determines development, testing, staging, and operating environments.
- Sustains and confers for relevant operating systems on organizational computer systems, all third party software components, and subsystems.
- Preserves and revises documentation on the operating systems configuration.
- Administers software life cycles.
- Plans, tests, installs, and integrates new and upgraded versions of the relevant operating systems on organizational computer systems, all third-party software components, and subsystems.
- Delivers technical support to applications and utility developers on requirements for integration into the operating environment.
- Investigates and solves systems software problems efficiently and accurately while adhering to internal software management standards and procedures.
- Examines and assimilates software and hardware.
- Resolves problems that may involve applications and the network.
