Food Service Attendant
This position plays a vital role in supporting the Culinary Services Department's mission : "To make a difference in the lives of those we serve every day through exceptional customer service and outstanding food." The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and sanitization of dishes, utensils, cookware, and food service equipment using manual and mechanical methods. This role supports food preparation and service across the facility, contributing to a safe, sanitary, and efficient kitchen and dining environment. Additional responsibilities are performed as needed to support the department's goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Following department standards, wash, rinse, sanitize, and store service ware (e.g., dishes, pots, pans, silverware, trays, utility carts).
Retrieve soiled dishware and trays from patient areas and return them to the dish room for cleaning.
Ensure adequate supply of clean trays and utensils is available in the cafeteria during mealtimes.
Record warewashing equipment temperatures and sanitizer levels per policy.
Set up, clean, and maintain food service equipment safely and hygienically.
Use appropriate cleaning tools, chemicals, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintain cleanliness of dining areas including tables, chairs, highchairs, and floors.
Sweep and mop floors as needed, and clean up spills promptly using wet floor signage.
Collect, remove, and dispose of trash and cardboard. Sanitize trash receptacles regularly.
Support catering functions by delivering, retrieving, and cleaning up after events as assigned.
Clean vending areas, including counters, microwaves, and floors.
Provide courteous customer service to internal and external customers; greet guests and follow the dress code.
Apply service recovery methods when necessary and notify the supervisor of customer concerns.
Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental objectives.
Education and Experience :
High school education or GED preferred.
Six (6) months of food service or commercial dishwashing experience preferred.
Licensure, Registration, and / or Certification (Required by SJCRH only) :
Required : ServSafe Food Handler Training Certificate Program or another ANSI-accredited Food Handler Training Certificate Program within thirty (30) days of hire. Certification must be maintained throughout employment.

Compensation : $19.00 - $27.50 per hour.
