Description : POSITION SUMMARY :

  • The Chief Medical Physicist is a board-certified specializing in therapeutic clinical services in external beam, including Adaptive-RT, SBRT, SRS, IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, SGRT, brachytherapy, and radiopharmaceutical programs. Your work will ensure the safe, accurate, and effective delivery of radiation therapy for our patients, making a direct impact on their care and outcomes.
  • At the Cancer Center of South Florida (CCSF), the Chief Medical Physicist plays a vital role within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, requiring strong clinical and interpersonal skills to provide excellent clinical care, as well as a commitment to continuous learning and leadership within the field of radiation oncology.
  • In addition to fulfilling essential clinical responsibilities, the Chief Medical Physicist is expected to embody the shared values and professional standards that guide our organizational culture and partnership pathway.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES :

Clinical Quality & Efficiency

  • Oversee all technical aspects of radiation oncology services, including network treatment equipment, treatment planning systems, treatment delivery, and ancillary equipment.
  • Establish and implement specifications for acceptance testing, calibration, and performance of all radiation simulation, delivery, measurement, treatment planning, QA software, and related equipment. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory, professional, and accreditation standards.
  • Lead and participate in quality assurance (QA) programs in accordance with American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) guidelines, including monthly and annual equipment QA tests and weekly patient chart reviews.
  • Responsible for radiation protection programs and serve as Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) as required by departmental needs or contractual obligations.
  • Collaborate with TGH affiliates to implement physics and radiation quality management programs. Participate in the development, review, and approval of clinical procedures and attend departmental QA and leadership meetings.
  • Serve as the primary contact for leadership on matters of quality, safety, performance, and compliance related to the technical and safety aspects of radiation oncology.
  • Supervise physics and dosimetry staff, ensuring appropriate resource allocation and professional development.
  • Act as a certified radiation expert, providing guidance on equipment procurement, evaluation of new treatment technologies, regulatory compliance, and billing practices.
  • Manage registration and compliance for all ionizing radiation equipment and radioactive material licenses.
  • Ensure proper and timely maintenance of all radiation treatment equipment.
  • Coordinate the operational activities of the medical physics and dosimetry teams within the department.
  • Deliver high-quality, cost-effective physics support and treatment planning services.
  • Stay current with advancements in radiation oncology, emerging technologies, and best practices.
  • Demonstrate personal reliability and efficiency in handling treatment planning responsibilities.
  • Perform and verify treatment planning calculations and support accurate patient billing.
  • Complete all mandatory education, training, and department-specific competency requirements.
  • Adhere to departmental policies, including those related to attendance, punctuality, confidentiality, dress code, identification, and workplace safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, dosimetrists, physicists, pharmacists, and administrative staff to deliver coordinated, comprehensive care.
  • Participate in chart rounds, case reviews, care planning discussions, and quality, safety, and operations meetings.
  • Maintain respectful, supportive relationships with colleagues and contribute to a positive work culture.
  • Share professional insights in a constructive and collegial manner; resolve conflicts respectfully.

  • Create and implement personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs based on the physician's directive.
  • Provide clear, compassionate communication and guidance with the clinical staff.
  • Maintain high patient and staff satisfaction through courtesy, respect, and service excellence.
  • Engage in ongoing communication with the clinical staff to promote trust and shared decision-making.

    • Regulatory & Ethical Compliance

  • Comply with all federal and state healthcare laws, including HIPAA, FCA, AKS, and the Stark Law.
  • Follow CCSF’s internal policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
  • Maintain a valid, unrestricted medical license and promote a culture of compliance and accountability.

    • Requirements :

    REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :

  • Master's or PhD degree in medical physics or related discipline.
  • Certified in therapeutic medical physics from the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or equivalent certification from the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM) or the American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) required.
  • Ten years of work experience as a Medical Physicist in a full-service radiation therapy center
  • A minimum of 3 years of leadership experience or leading teams in a technical field.

    • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS OR ABILITIES :

  • Knowledge of radiation oncology, diagnostics, and evidence-based radiation treatment protocols
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making in complex medical planning situations.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with the care teams.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment meanwhile promoting collegiality and mutual respect.
  • Ability to manage time and have a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership, integrity, and compliance with medical, ethical and legal standards.
  • Knowledge of Varian and GE equipment, use of electronic medical records, treatment planning systems, and QA software.
