Job Duties Position

We’re excited to welcome a full-time Junior Graphic Designer to join our St. Paul team! This is a fantastic opportunity to dive into meaningful projects and grow your skills in a supportive, collaborative environment. At 106 Group, we work nationally with a diverse range of clients—including government agencies, corporations, community organizations, and tribal partners. You’ll be part of a creative team alongside talented graphic designers, all within a flexible, innovative workplace.

Our design work focuses on revealing the stories of places as a critical aspect of protecting cultural heritage. We often work closely with Indigenous and underrepresented communities and advocate for processes that open doors to voices that have traditionally been left out. Using a mix of creative skills, industry awareness, and visual storytelling ability, you’ll produce interpretation that impacts audiences and supports the goals of each individual client.

This is an early career position with a hybrid work option when in-office technology is not needed.

Responsibilities

Develop engaging 2D waysides and exhibit designs, collaborating through an iterative process with clients and the design team.

Prepare and move design files through fabrication by completing quality assurance and preflight procedures while coordinating with external vendors.

Research, document, and acquire assets following good use-rights management practices.

Design and assemble client-facing deliverable documentation while maintaining company and industry standards.

Create 508-compliant accessible PDFs from InDesign and MS Word files.

Collaborate closely with other designers, writers, planners, and project managers as an integrated member of project teams.

Assist the Proposal and Marketing teams with refining proposal layouts in InDesign, developing marketing collateral, and photography needs.

Participate in additional projects, as appropriate, according to skill level and availability.

Contribute to a company culture of teamwork, service, and excellence.

Minimum Education Required B.A. or B.S. degree in graphic design or closely related field.

Minimum Experience Required Requirements

A portfolio that shows your attention to detail, storytelling ability, and skill in combining design elements effectively.

Comfort working across multiple media forms. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Knowledge of preflight and fabrication processes.

Demonstrate organization, problem solving skills, and the ability to take a task and run with it.

Ability to critique other designs and take constructive criticism.

Desire for continual learning and adaptability amongst multiple active projects of varying scope and speed.

Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize work, and collaboratively resolve challenges.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Valid driver’s license and ability to reliably commute to either the 106 Group offices or project locations.

Some overnight interstate travel may be required for project work.

Additional experience valued or preferred :

B.A. or B.S. degree in graphic design or closely related field.

Experience with 3D software such as SketchUp and / or CAD programs.

Understanding of Accessibility and Universal Design and familiarity with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Architectural Barriers Act (ABA) as it pertains to the display of information and the built environment.

Interest in history, archaeology, natural sciences, and / or indigenous cultures.

Proficiency in pencil sketch and other illustration techniques for both early conceptual work and final illustration asset creation.

Proficient in languages other than English, including Spanish, Dakota, Ojibwe, Hmong, Somali, and / or Karen.

Experience with web design and / or development including WordPress, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and / or PHP.
