Description of Job

Term Limited Position : This position is term limited with an anticipated end date of two years from the time of hire. The position may be extended if additional funds permit it. This position is eligible for State employee benefits.

Hybrid Workplace : An employee has a set schedule where they work a combination of days at a remote location and days in the State Workplace. The employee may have an assigned workspace or use options such as hoteling to reserve their in-office days. Primary work location for occupational privilege tax is the State Workplace and is also based on where the employee works the majority of the time.

Travel : This role will require occasional travel to locations around Pueblo and Southern Colorado. These instances will be planned in advance, and expenses will be reimbursed per the existing policies and procedures.

As our new Network Administrator II you will provide advanced technical network communications support. You will develop, test, implement, and maintain new / existing equipment. Equipment may include but is not limited to routers, switches, wireless access points and controllers, and VoIP technologies. Some of the day-to-day opportunities include :

  • Provide daily technical operations support and technical expertise for network Infrastructure (hardware and / or software) as it relates to data transport (wired or wireless) and information technology.
  • Assist with the design, installation and configuration of network communications infrastructure including, but not limited to routers, switches, wireless access points, and wireless LAN controllers.
  • Respond to critical outages and end-user technical issues escalated through the enterprise service desk.
  • Diagnosing and appropriately handling network outages including during on-call rotation.
  • Resolving these issues in a timely manner requires a combination of technical knowledge to identify and correct the issue or to escalate the issue with the service provider, if necessary.
  • May be required to travel to any agency or location throughout the state to provide services.

Background Checks : This position will support the Department of Corrections (DOC) and / or the Department of Public Safety. These agencies require the successful completion of an additional background check, including a physical exam (by position), suitability screening, and urinalysis. Successful candidates may also be subject to random drug screening throughout the course of employment. Successful completion of the background investigation is required before employment may commence.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

A wide salary range is posted for this position and any job offer is based upon a salary analysis to comply with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The salary analysis considers relevant experience, education, certifications, and state seniority as compared to others doing substantially similar work. While all offers are compliant with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, there is no guarantee an offer will be at the top of the posted range based on the salary analysis.

This is a skills-based job announcement. The required minimum qualifications and / or education (if substituting for the proven experience, knowledge, and skills), are as follows :

  • Minimum Qualifications : A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position, including professional experience as a dedicated Network Administrator, utilizing Cisco-specific devices (Switches / Routers) in a medium to large enterprise environment.
  • Substitutions : Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.
  • Training or Certification related to the work assigned to the position will be assigned credit towards substitution for experience and / or education, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.
  • If the minimum qualifications include a degree requirement, additional appropriate paid or unpaid experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Relevant years of State Service in a position with similar duties.
  • Four or more years of professional work experience in information technology network operations and support.
  • Two or more years of professional experience in Cisco router and switch configuration.
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service skills.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
  • Experience managing ISP's, Circuits, and Scheduling Cut overs.
  • Conditions of Employment :

  • OIT employees must comply with any screening procedures in place at state entity locations where they might be required to perform work.
  • A pre-employment background check will be conducted as part of the selection process.
  • Positions supporting some agencies such as the Department of Corrections and the Department of Public Safety will also require a pre-employment drug test.
