Job Summary
The Spiker Operator is responsible for running equipment on the rail to remove and set spikes into rail plates.
Major Responsibilities
- Run spiker on the rail
- Run heavy equipment on the rail
- Remove rail spikes
- Replace rail spikes
- Help out with rail work as needed
- Maintain various hand tools for assigned work
- Maintain equipment
- Ensure railroad right-of-way is clear
- Ensure a safe working environment
- Class A CDL a plus to haul equipment
Working Conditions
Up to 12 hour shiftsOn the road job up to 8 nights at a timeOutdoor work in various types of weather and environmental conditionsMust be able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly, and more at timesRequirements
Relevant work experience in similar working conditions or regulatory and safety environmentExperience operating heavy equipment and machinery, specifically a spikerHigh School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)Railroad knowledge and experienceMust be at least 18 years of ageMust meet all medical fitness for DOT Medical CardMust be a team playerWelding skills a plusMechanic skills a plusValid Class A CDL a plusconstruction, spiker, railroad, Spiker Operator
