We are poised for continued growth and have an immediate need for a highly skilled and effective Senior Mechanical Estimator. This position is responsible for preparing detailed cost proposals for complete HVAC systems, including plumbing, hydronic piping, and sheet metal. The successful candidate is thorough, meticulous, has experience with complete HVAC systems with plumbing experience
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Use Quote Express estimating software to do quantity take-offs.
- Review RFPs, Specifications, Basis of Design and Drawings to determine scope, identify risks and opportunities, and prepare detailed estimates.
- Review all final estimate and budget packages to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to formal quotation.
- Budget projects for clients using various levels of provided detail from a narrative to complete drawings.
- Develop relationships with client estimating staff and support their budgeting needs.
- Consult with clients, vendors, and personnel in other departments or construction supervisors to discuss and formulate estimates, resolve issues, and obtain support and commitment to the cost-estimates.
- Solicit subcontractor bids and vendor quotes, and review and verify scope coverage.
- Use complex estimating spreadsheets including ability to modify as needed for reporting out data for external and internal deliverables.
- Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
- Assist management team with analyzing completed projects to drive lessons learned and collect data to use on future project estimates.
- Assist Project Manager's in setting up jobs so the project results can be forecasted effectively.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.American Society of Professional Estimators certification is a plus.Experience bidding projects of all sizes.Ability to lay out, size, and quantify HVAC systems in situations where the drawings are conceptual in nature.Familiarity of HVAC piping and plumbing systems.Ability to interpret engineering, architectural, and construction plans, drawings and specifications, and knowledge of building and mechanical codes is required.Knowledgeable about construction contracts.Initiative-taker who requires minimal supervision yet is a good communicator who will proactively keep their supervisor informed on a regular basis.Flexible and works well in a challenging environment.Works well under pressure particularly when faced with unexpected events, delays, tight timelines, or urgent demands.Solid analytical and critical thinking skills.Approaches others in a diplomatic manner, treats others with respect, and exhibits objectivity and openness to other points of view.Accepts responsibility for own actions and follows through on commitments.Resolute - consistently at work and on time, arrives at meetings and appointments prepared and on time, and ensures responsibilities are covered when absent.Commits to completing tasks on schedule or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan.Balances team and individual responsibilities.Exceptional oral and written communication skills - can lead a group to reach an objective and presents information in an effective manner to a variety of audiences.Thorough in completing tasks and focused on detail and accuracy.Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking abilities.Strong mathematical skills and the ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.Works with integrity and ethical business practices.Advanced user of the Microsoft Office suite particularly in Excel.Experience with Quote Express or similar estimating software is a plus.Compensation
