The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) role centers on the prevention of adverse health effects from occupational and environmental hazards within the work environment. The OHN fosters a holistic, multidisciplinary approach in the delivery of safe, quality, and comprehensive occupational and environmental health programs aimed at preventive health care, health promotion, and health restoration. The OHN has the responsibility to coordinate designated components of OHS program as assigned and is expected to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to identify health and safety needs, prioritize interventions, develop and implement programs, and evaluate care and delivery services for Mayo Clinic employees. Computer hardware, appropriate software utilization and critical thinking must be incorporated into daily job functions. A successful OHN will be able to : work autonomously and as a team member; demonstrate basic knowledge and advance his / her knowledge and skills in occupational health; keep current on best practices through evidence-based research, consensus, and guidelines; set priorities, manage workload, and meet deadlines; communicate effectively and build partnerships with a wide variety of healthcare team members and employees; effectively lead teams / committees / workgroups; provide case management of occupational and non-occupational illness and injuries; perform health hazard assessment and surveillance of worker populations.
