Under supervision, performs acetylene burning, electric arc and oxy-acetylene welding in all positions on both light and heavy material to maintain the proper size, contour, fusion, penetration and strength of welds and to prevent undercut, overlap and slag inclusions in welds. Duties include but are not limited to the following :
1.Read and work from blueprints, sketches and working drawings.
2. Properly use various types of welding rods and machines, such as mig, tig, bore welding machines, servo graft burning machines, etc.
3. Pre-heat and clean metals.
4. Lay out, cut and fit material for welding.
5. Perform air arc plasma cutting and carbon air arc cutting, weld machinery, equipment, structures and bridges.
6. Use special hand and power tools.
7. Brazes various non-ferrous metals.
8. Brush and grind welds.
9. Perform basic rigging as required.
10. May operate motor vehicles and equipment in the performance of assigned duties.
Note : Due to the existence of a civil service list, candidates must have permanent civil service status in the title of Welder to be considered.
