Position Summary

The Trades Maintenance Worker 2 (TMW2) position is the second level of a two-level series. It is distinguished from the lower level Trades Maintenance Worker 1 position by responsibility of performing tasks independently without the guidance of a skilled tradesperson.

The TMW2 is a vital member of the University Housing Facilities Services team, responsible for routine, planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance across University Housing buildings, apartments, and associated equipment. Primary duties include maintaining various building systems, such as plumbing, electrical wiring, painting, construction, and repairs on commercial kitchen equipment, refrigeration, and more. This position requires a solid understanding of general maintenance and construction, as well as the ability to work independently and adhere to state and local codes.

Key responsibilities include performing tasks in plumbing, electrical systems, and general maintenance such as installing plumbing fixtures, repairing wiring systems, painting surfaces, constructing walls and shelves, and maintaining lawn equipment. The TMW2 assists licensed trade workers like electricians or plumbers in tasks requiring specific certifications and coordinates with helpers or students as needed. Preventative maintenance through scheduled servicing and inspections is a critical part of the role, ensuring the longevity and safety of facilities and equipment.

This role demands proficiency in using various hand and power tools, safety equipment, and personal protective gear, including fall-prevention equipment. Work must be completed to service standards and compliance with codes. The position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects and contribute to maintaining the high standards of the University Housing facilities.

This is a full-time, 12-month position and reports to a University Housing Facilities Manager.

Special Requirement :

Valid driver's license and the ability to obtain UO Driver's Certification for the purpose of driving University vehicles.

Minimum Requirements

  • 3 years of general building maintenance experience in one or more of the following trade areas : carpentry, electrical, mechanical, painting, plumbing, and welding.
