Optical Engineer
You will be the Optical Engineer for our Electro-Optical Systems team. Our team is responsible for designing, analyzing, and testing complex optical designs in EO systems, including military fire control, missile, and laser systems. As the Optical Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and implementing innovative optical system concepts, layouts, and detailed designs. Your responsibilities will include :
- Conducting research and development to improve manufacturing, integration, and alignment processes for EO systems
- Troubleshooting system hardware issues and applying knowledge of geometrical and physical optics to resolve problems
- Developing and maintaining optical system designs using optical design codes like CodeV
- Supporting subcontractor improvements, program cost reduction activities, and optics-related manufacturing producibility or cost savings initiatives
- Traveling to optics suppliers to support program requirements and schedules

Basic Qualifications :
Degree in Optics, Physics, or equivalentMust be able to work in a highly diverse, interdisciplinary, collaborative multi-tasking, R&D or integrated product development team environmentHas, or ability to obtain, a US DoD Secret (or higher) security clearanceGood writing and oral communication skillsAbility to travel occasionally to support business need.Advanced proficiency in Windows / Microsoft Office Suite : Windows, Word, Excel, and Power PointAptitude in engineering mathematics and ability to correlate theory with hardware design and system responseExperience with optical hardware in a production environmentAbility to support design layout, tolerances and detail lens drawingsAbility to troubleshoot and evaluate multi-spectral complex optical, electro-optical, and laser systems issues occurring during fabrication, assembly and testKnowledge of optical component manufacturing, optical metrology techniques, and optical assembly manufacturing methods and mounting techniquesCapability to perform interferometric measurements, optical alignments and radiometric measurementsCapable of production line troubleshooting and evaluation of multi-spectral complex optical, electro-optical, and laser systemsDesired Skills :
Knowledge of geometrical and physical optics, optical aberration theoryFluency with CodeV (preferred) or Zemax software for optical design and tolerance analysis and performance optimizationFamiliarity with optical materials, including infrared materials.Experienced in generating optics prescriptions for visible through long wave IR applicationsKnowledge of basic radiometry and Electro-Optical analysis fundamentalsProficient in the use of optical tooling, interferometers and optical inspection techniquesWorking knowledge of lasers and coherent beam analysisAble to communicate with mechanical designers and optics suppliers and assist with manufacturing issuesSecurity Clearance Statement : This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.
