Managing Director, Group Manager - Emerging Middle Market

We are seeking a top‑performing Managing Director, Group Manager for our Emerging Middle Market Group, leading Regional Managers and their teams of Relationship Managers covering the Midwest region. The ideal candidate has 9+ years of proven success generating new clients, calling on companies generating $10MM – $50MM in revenue, and establishing relationships with customers, COIs, and key stakeholders in these geographies.
Responsibilities
Represent the bank at industry forums and conferences, leveraging insights on trends, competition, and emerging products to drive strategic decision‑making.
Lead the structuring of high‑value, complex deals, and credit approvals, ensuring alignment with client needs.
Manage high‑value client portfolios, driving cross‑selling, retention, and profitability.
Drive efforts to identify new business opportunities, acquire clients, penetrate markets, and expand the client base by leveraging market insights, competitor analysis, and cross‑selling initiatives.
Lead market coverage strategies to expand portfolios, identify opportunities, and align with business goals.
Guide teams in recruiting, developing, and coaching staff to manage critical emerging middle market relationships focused on gaining market share and driving client satisfaction.
Act as an escalation point for complex client issues, using strategic problem‑solving to resolve conflicts and maintain strong client relationships.
Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, internal controls, and compliance policies in all aspects of relationship management.
Streamline operational processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement best practices.
Build and maintain strong long‑term relationships with the bank’s high‑value and strategic clients, providing strategic advice on financial solutions and ensuring exceptional service.
Championship of BMO’s purpose, values, and strategy within all teams, fostering a culture of inclusion and high performance.
Drive and oversee resource allocation for the team, ensuring effective use of personnel and budgets to meet organizational goals and enhance client satisfaction.
Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to define products, solutions, and strategies that best meet client needs and capture share of wallet opportunities.
Analyze market trends, client industry developments, and competitive positioning to inform client solution strategies and optimize client satisfaction.
Maintain a portfolio that exceeds ROE thresholds and evaluates client returns proactively.
Lead key initiatives, serve as a senior specialist resource across BMO, and influence broader organizational alignment.
Qualifications
10+ years of relevant experience in Relationship Management, Account Management, or Portfolio Management in a corporate or segmented banking environment with sales metrics.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. CPA certification preferred. Business Administration, Finance, and Accounting background preferred.
Seasoned industry expert with extensive knowledge of emerging middle market segments.
Technical leader recognized as a thought leader for innovation and compliance.
Expert proficiency in product knowledge, regulatory compliance, deal structuring, portfolio management, credit risk assessment, project management, change management, customer service, stakeholder management, negotiation, customer relationship building, and people management.
Compensation
$164,400.00 – $285,600.00 (Salaried)
Salaries may vary based on location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications. Commission structures and performance incentives may also apply.
