Dean of Students Grades 612

Full-Time 12-Month Position

Maclay School seeks a relational steady and highly organized Dean of Students to lead all aspects of student behavior conduct systems and community expectations in Grades 612. The Dean of Students is a key positive culture-builder who through a personal and professional example of high expectations discipline in personal matters and an attitude of positive assumptions ensures that students experience a safe supportive and well-structured environment aligned with our schools mission and values. Working in partnership this position will oversee behavioral systems student accountability restorative practices and daily conduct matters in close collaboration with division administration school counseling and other student-support personnel.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage all behavioral incidents discipline systems and conduct policies for Grades 612.

Serve as the primary point of contact for behavioral referrals daily incidents and conduct-related communication with students families and faculty.

Foster meaningful relationships and model relational leadership through active participation in advisory athletics or co-curricular programs that build trust and community.

Oversee the schools Code of Conduct including policy updates communication and annual education for students and families.

Implement restorative approaches : mediations agreements harm-repair processes and ensure that disciplinary responses are equitable and promote learning and growth.

Develop and monitor individualized behavior plans in partnership with the counseling team learning support and school leadership.

Track behavioral data identify trends and recommend proactive interventions programming or system-level improvements.

Support or lead related student culture initiatives including assemblies advisory components character development programming and community expectations.

Provide a strong and visible presence throughout campus

Maintain clear timely documentation of incidents follow-up actions and communication.

Partner closely with faculty coaches and sponsors to support classroom management consistent expectations and early interventions.

Serve on the Student Support Team collaborating with counselors and school administration on case management for students needing additional support.

Support campus safety processes crisis response and emergency protocols in partnership with school leadership.

Qualifications

Qualifications

A bachelors degree in education psychology counseling social work or a related field is required; a masters degree in education educational leadership counseling psychology or a closely related field is strongly preferred.

5 years of experience working with adolescents in a school settingdiscipline counseling student life or administrative experience preferred.

Strong knowledge of adolescent development restorative practices and positive behavioral interventions.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with students families and faculty.

Demonstrated ability to remain calm clear and steady during challenging situations.

Strong organizational systems-thinking and decision-making skills.

Commitment to student well-being and a positive school culture.

This position requires frequent and sometimes rapid movement throughout the campus including walking or briskly walking between multiple buildings climbing and descending stairs repeatedly and regularly transitioning between indoor and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions. The Dean of Students must be able to stand and supervise students for prolonged periods quickly respond to student incidents or emergencies and maintain high visibility during arrival dismissal class changes and school events.
