We are seeking a dedicated ASCP Certified Phlebotomy Technician to join our healthcare team in a regional medical facility serving the Southern United States. This part-time, on-site role involves precise collection and documentation of blood specimens, ensuring patient safety and adherence to laboratory standards.
Responsibilities
- Record phlebotomy collection details accurately in the Laboratory Information System, including patient identification, collection, and receipt times.
- Perform venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks on patients of all ages following established protocols.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy and supply areas as well as patient waiting spaces.
- Label samples in the presence of patients, strictly following patient identification policies.
- Collect chain of custody urine samples with proper documentation.
- Adhere to laboratory safety standards, including the use of personal protective equipment.
- Demonstrate proficiency with laboratory computer systems for order entry and verification of medical necessity.
- Assist with outpatient order checks, result faxing, and follow-up on collection issues.
- Manage inventory of laboratory supplies, ensuring proper stock rotation and viability.
- Operate patient equipment safely and comply with alarm system policies.
- Stay informed on testing methods and reference requirements to effectively communicate with patients.
- Work independently with minimal supervision and contribute to team efforts during off-shift or crisis situations.
- Maintain positive working relationships with healthcare staff and support a safe patient care environment.
Education and Experience
Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program and certification by a recognized body such as ASCP is required. Previous experience in a clinical laboratory or hospital setting is preferred.
