UX / UI Designer

Were seeking an experienced UX / UI Designer to play a key role in modernizing a statewide information platform. This is a high-impact opportunity to design a secure, accessible, and user-centered digital experience for administration stakeholders across the state.
The ideal candidate is passionate about civic technology, highly skilled in user research and interaction design, and knowledgeable in accessibility and responsive design for public-sector web platforms.
Minimum Qualifications
4+ years of UX / UI design experience.
Proficiency with Figma, Sketch, and Adobe Creative Suite.
Strong understanding of user research methodologies and usability testing.
Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to support design feasibility.
Deep familiarity with WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards.
Expertise in responsive design and mobile-first design principles.
Key Responsibilities
As the UX / UI Designer, you will :
Conduct user research and interviews with voters, candidates, poll workers, and state / local staff to identify needs, pain points, and behavioral insights.
Develop user personas, journey maps, and flowcharts to document key interaction paths and inform the platforms user experience.
Create information architecture artifacts including annotated sitemaps and IA diagrams to establish content structure and navigation patterns.
Design mid-fidelity to high-fidelity wireframes and responsive mockups across desktop, tablet, and mobile interfaces.
Ensure all design work adheres to WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility requirements, including color contrast, keyboard navigation, and assistive tech support.
Plan, conduct, and analyze user testing sessions to validate design decisions and iterate based on user feedback.
Build a comprehensive visual design system (typography, color palettes, iconography, reusable components) and component library for seamless development handoff.
Collaborate closely with front-end developers and support QA testing to ensure accurate design implementation and visual consistency across the full site experience.
