Overview
SRI International has an immediate opportunity for a Business Manager to provide financial and business operational support for a technical division. This role is a key management position, a liaison between SRI’s technical talent and financial management teams. It is based in our Palo Alto, CA office, with a hybrid work schedule.
The Business Manager has the responsibility of ensuring the financial reports of the Division accurately reflect the position of the Division and specifically the underlying contracts and programs in accordance with SRI policy, GAAP, FAR / CAS requirements, and best practices. In addition, financial activities are monitored and managed as efficiently and effectively as possible while adhering to SRI processes and supporting the strategic goals of SRI and the Division. Successful financial management by the Business Manager and their Project Administrator team is essential to ensure that contracts / projects are managed to perform within budget, to maximize profit, to provide for future investment to further SRI’s growth and mission.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Division project teams.
- Define and promote SRI and Division strategic vision and plan, adopt and promote new processes, ideas, be a guide and mentor.
- Efficiently and effectively manage the financial aspects of the Division; ensuring the financial / business reports and variance analysis are accurate and properly reflect the business condition of the Division, as well as, following all SRI policies and procedures.
- Escalate to supervisor any potential major financial impacts prior to being realized; along with a plan to mitigate as necessary.
- Build a strong, effective Project Administrator team, including successor.
- Financial planning, forecasting, management, and project control; maintain strong financial controls over all activities of the Division to include monthly cash flow forecasting, managing aging A / R, unbilled, budgeting and profit & loss projections, from project detail to Division summary.
- Provide accurate, timely management reporting in a Period / monthly, annual, and ad hoc basis as required, on time, including detailed variance analysis.
- Manage and maintain accurate quarterly forecasts and annual plan, with project detail.
- Long term financial planning to include a 3-year capital expenditure program and future revenue / market streams.
- Manage and train Project Administrator staff.
- Prepare and present periodic business reviews reports with concise variance analysis details; able to identify and quantify major business performance drivers as well as to summarize Division status; reporting to executive management.
- Review and approve as necessary purchase orders and subsequent invoices to confirm adherence to accounting policies; delegate to staff as appropriate.
- Management of annual Division budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes including oversight of the performance of internal budget holders.
- Manage the communication between SRI technical staff and auditors, including provision of relevant accounting and other records during the internal and external audit.
- Ensure Project Control is successfully performed through full ownership of projects, from setup to close-out through final rates. Including period and annual accruals, management reviews, invoicing on time, tracking receivables to fortify SRI’s cash position, managing unbilled, project forecasts, EACs and cash flows.
- Oversight of Division facilities as applicable, review, approve lease agreements.
- Provide oversight of major indirect services and suppliers, performing periodic reviews, re-tendering and reappointment as required.
Qualifications

Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles.
