Job code and title : casual. Position / working title : Lab Aide. Unit and location where duties will be performed : MAISRC Containment Lab (St. Paul). Name and title of person this position reports to : Daryl Gohl. Length of probationary period : casual. Percent time of appointment : 35%. Term and type of appointment : casual. Pay range : $16.00. Any other identifying specifications particular to the position; i.e. work hours, work days : Monday-Friday, 9 : 00AM-5 : 30PM : The exact time worked is flexible. Typical shifts are around 3-4 hours. Profile One - Office / Lab Based : Time spent working remotely is occasional or inconsistent. Dedicated on campus work space to be provided. Physical and Environmental Requirements Must be able to lift 25 pounds.

Qualifications Required (Minimum) Qualifications : HS Degree or equivalent. Experience in a laboratory environment. Ability to follow oral directions and written protocols precisely, independently motivated, able to manage time and meet deadlines, strong communication skills, meticulous organizational skills, reliability and accountability of work.
Preferred Qualifications : (Selection Criteria) Major in science with interest in molecular biology, genetics, genomics, or related field. Applicants may have backgrounds in science, aquarium husbandry, or engineering related disciplines. Direct experience with and knowledge of general laboratory equipment is preferred.

The position is located in the UMGC Innovation Lab to work on a project sponsored by the Minnesota Aquatic Invasive Species Research Center (MAISRC). We are seeking a dedicated, self-motivated student employee at our site to work primarily in the Algae Culture Lab supporting zebra mussel biocontrol research.
Pay and Benefits Pay Range : $16.00 / hr. Retirement plan options are available for Civil Service, Faculty, Labor-Represented, Professional & Administrative, and Temp Casual classifications.
