Building Inspector
The City of Oakdale is seeking a skilled and motivated Building Inspector to help ensure the safety and quality of development in our community. This role involves inspecting residential, commercial, and public projects for compliance with state codes and local ordinances. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise and strong communication skills to work with contractors, property owners, and residents while supporting Oakdale's commitment to safe, sustainable growth.
Under limited supervision, this position conducts building inspections to ensure local building codes and other related code standards are met for community life / safety needs. The City may hire candidates at any step in the pay schedule based on qualifications and experience.
The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following :
Complexity : Processes, procedures, or software vary from one assignment to the next, although assignments are related in function and objective. Responsibility : Supervision : This position either (a) carries out work with minimal supervision (i.e., the supervisor sets only goals, priorities, and deadlines; and the employee uses guidelines that cover most situations), or (b) follows the supervisor's directions on methods and desired results but modifies methods to resolve unforeseen situations and problems. Building codes must be followed, ordinances and zoning must be followed, how something is achieved can vary on the job site. Impact : Work affects a wide range of professional projects or administrative activities of the organization, influences internal or external operations, or impacts many people. This role assists with office work, processing permits, contact with the public, phones, emails, and other contacts throughout the city.

Surroundings : This position is partially in the office and partially in the field inspecting construction sites. Moderate Risk Exposure to outside environmental conditions and / or exposure to noise, dust, fumes, gases, chemicals, oils requiring special mitigating precautions or protective gear, and / or working in close quarters, narrow aisles or passageways, and / or work around moving mechanical parts.

Any access to not public data should be strictly limited to accessing the data that are necessary to perform the duties. While data are being accessed, this position should take reasonable measures to ensure the not public data are not accessed by individuals without a work reason.
