Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and equipment manuals. Basic computer skills for entering maintenance data and accessing system controls. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Willingness to work various shifts, weekends, or be on-call, as required. RETA certification (CIRO or CARO) or equivalent ammonia refrigeration training. Boiler operator license or certification. Experience with utilities systems (air compressors, boilers, water treatment, etc.). Familiarity with Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA RMP requirements. HVAC certification.
Position Summary :
The Refrigeration / Utilities Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all refrigeration and utility systems in the facility. This includes ammonia refrigeration systems, HVAC, compressed air, boilers, water systems, and related equipment. The technician will ensure systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities :
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain ammonia refrigeration systems (NH₃) in compliance with PSM / RMP guidelines.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on refrigeration, HVAC, air compressors, boilers, and utility systems.
- Monitor system performance and make adjustments as necessary to ensure optimal operation and temperature control.
- Respond promptly to equipment alarms and breakdowns to minimize downtime.
- Document maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs in CMMS or logbooks.
- Support energy efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Follow all safety policies, including Lockout / Tagout, Confined Space, and PPE protocols.
- Assist with maintaining and updating PSM documentation and inspections.
- Participate in training programs and safety drills (e.g., ammonia leak response).
- Coordinate with other departments during utility-related outages or repairs.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations.
