Field Service Engineer Apprentice

With innovation, safety, and service at the core of our solutions, we support over 600 airports worldwide with advanced technology, including TSA-certified Automated Screening Lanes (ASLs) for passenger checkpoints.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically capable Field Service Engineer Apprentice to join our team at Harry Reid International Airport (LAS). This position will support the day-to-day maintenance and technical performance of Vanderlande's Automated Screening Lanes at LAS, currently in operation and scheduled for phased reduction beginning in 2026.

The Apprentice will receive direct training and mentorship from experienced Field Service Engineers and will be fully integrated into all maintenance, troubleshooting, and support functions of the ASL equipment.

This is a full-time, salaried apprentice role with an estimated duration of 9-12 months, contingent on the timing of TSA's installation of CT deployment project. Continued employment may be possible based on future lane support requirements and staffing availability.

Key Responsibilities

Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electro-mechanical screening equipment

Conduct visual inspections, replace worn parts, and support technical cleaning of equipment

Assist with and eventually perform independently :

Diagnosing issues with computer hardware and software-based systems

Troubleshooting Siemens PLC panels and ASibus field wiring

Documenting all maintenance tasks in the CMMS (maintenance management system)

Managing inventory and ordering of consumables and spare parts

Support installation and commissioning of equipment, if required

Collaborate with TSA and airport stakeholders to ensure timely response and excellent customer service

Escalate complex technical issues to L2 and L3 support, participating in diagnostics and resolution

Learn and uphold Vanderlande maintenance and safety procedures

Perform duties independently upon certification and training completion

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED

Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly and work in a physically demanding airport environment

Ability to complete and obtain TSA SIDA and Public Trust security clearance and federal background checks

Comfort working independently and occasionally outside regular hours for urgent maintenance

Preferred Qualifications

Hands-on experience

Electro-mechanical systems

Control wiring, sensors, or PLC panels

Troubleshooting Linux-based systems or networking hardware

Military technical background highly preferred

Familiarity with Siemens TIA Portal, ASibus, Ethernet, or TCP / IP

Experience documenting technical work and using CMMS platforms

Position Details

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work : Full time position; 24 / 7 operation; 3 shifts available; weekend work is common.

Term : Approximately 9-12 months, however it is determined by the completion of un-installation project.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

Regularly lift / carry up to 50 lbs.; occasionally up to 75 lbs.

Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crawling

Work near moving mechanical parts, exposure to electrical hazards and cleaning solutions

Noise levels may vary from moderate to loud depending on airport traffic and operation
