This position is only open to Colorado state residents. Total annual compensation for this position is $72,000-$76,752 ($60,000-$64,752 base pay and $12,000 housing stipend). Base pay for this position is $2307.69-$2490.46 / biweekly ($60,000-$64,752 / annually). There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year. This location is also eligible for an additional $1000 / month housing stipend. The annualized hourly rate for this position is $28.85-$31.13 / hour.

About the Work Unit This Heavy Equipment Operator IV works as part of the Colorado Department of Transportation's (CDOT's) Region 1 Maintenance Team. This team maintains the Colorado Department of Transportation highway system and facilities to as near original conditions as constructed utilizing available resources, personnel, equipment and material, ensuring a safe roadway for the traveling public.
About the Position This position operates heavy, large specialized roadway equipment with complex controls requiring a high degree of skill gained through experience and training. This position is expected to serve as an expert in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and transporting of heavy and specialized equipment. This position mentors others on safe equipment operation and maintenance. This position performs maintenance of roadside surface, facilities, structures, and appearance; provides traffic control and traffic services; operates and maintains equipment; performs skilled labor activities; and effectively uses resources through active planning and administration.
Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following :

Work Environment Exposure to loud noise Exposure to fumes, odors, gasses, dusts, etc. that may affect breathing, eyes, and skin Required to use appropriate personal protective equipment Required to work with chemicals and cleaning products Some equipment requires the use of respirators Work near traffic, sometimes high-speed traffic Use ladders and scissor lifts for heights of approximately 10'20' Required to drive CDOT vehicles Frequently respond to emergencies outside regular work hours and may work overtime including weekends and holidays Must be willing and be physically able to work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold), variable weather conditions, and at varying elevations up to 12,000 feet for long periods of time
Minimum Qualifications At least four years of heavy equipment operation experience that includes operating AND transporting backhoes, motor graders, and / or specialty equipment (e.g., bulldozer, gradall, laydown, trackhoe, excavator, vactor truck, etc.), with proficiency at the journey level. Conditions of Employment Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License Class A with no restrictions on air brakes, manual transmissions, and tractor trailers.
