Head Basketball Coach Job Description
Purpose : The Head Basketball Coach promotes an appreciation of physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The Head Basketball Coach provides leadership and supervision for the team.
Responsible to : Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, and Head of School
Time Frame : End of October to end of January
Payment rate : $20 / hour
Qualifications :
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (or working towards degree)
- Experience playing Basketball and / or coaching Basketball
Essential functions :
Coordinate and supervise Basketball program and teamPromotes and appreciation of physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanshipDesign a training program and game planCommunicate effectively with all members of the school and communityReact to change productively and handle other tasks as assignedSupport the value of an educationPhysical requirements / environmental conditions :
1) Requires prolonged sitting or standing
2) Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, life, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.
3) Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching
4) Requires some travel
5) Must work in noisy and crowded environments
General Responsibilities :
Coordinate and supervise your assigned teamHelp students achieve gains in athletic skill and team performanceTrain other who are assisting with the team in techniques, skills, philosophy, rules and strategiesAttend scheduling team and athletic department events (Banquet, Parent Meeting, etc.)Develop team rules in line with the schools mission and athletic departments three pillars (teamwork, sportsmanship, development). Communicate them with players and their parents. Enforce them equitablyMaintain good public relations for the athletic department and Mason Prep SchoolEnsure students meet eligibility rulesEnsure that physical evaluation forms, waivers and permission forms are properly completed and filed with the Athletic DirectorEnsure that students adhere to training rules, grade requirements, and rules of behaviorEnsure the continual supervision of students on the court, in conditioning, and in within all athletic spacesEnsure that health and safety precautions are observed during all activitiesImmediately report all major injuries incurred during practices or competitions to the Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic DirectorEnsure proper care and inventory of equipmentNotify Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director of team record (this can be a simple text or email)Present individual / team awards at the end of the season banquetSee that league policies are observed during all activitiesObtain advance approval of the Athletic Director or Assistant Athletic Director for all activities and expendituresAdhere to all district health and safety policies, including precautions to bloodborne pathogens exposure control planOther duties as assign by the Athletic Director or Assistant Athletic Director
