Job Summary
The Theater Program has limited employment opportunities in the Scene Shop to help build scenery and props, assist with lighting and sound, and provide general production assistance for theater productions and events. First year students, non-majors, and those with carpentry experience are encouraged to apply. Additional training will be provided as needed.
Core Duties
- Be part of the team of students who builds, assembles, and strikes each set all while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for fellow shop workers and other theater collaborators.
- Maintain a safe work environment, only using tools you have been trained in and watching out for possible hazards for both you and others in the theater.
- Build scenic elements as assigned by the technical director.
- Paint scenic elements as assigned by the technical director.
- Attend one Saturday training each semester to stay up to date on the various safety practices employed by the scene shop.
- Hang and focus lights for each production, including attending Thursday evening call the week before a production opens.
- Operate hand and power tools to construct and deconstruct scenery
- Measure, cut, and assemble scenery from construction drawings
- Hang and circuit lighting and sound equipment
- Help maintain clean, organized, and safe workspaces
- Other relevant tasks as assigned
