American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU night shift position requiring recent CVICU experience and a compact or NC RN license.

Job Details

  • Position is based in a Level 1 Trauma, Academic Medical Center in the Cardiovascular ICU,
  • Unit is a 22-bed ICU with an average daily census of 20 patients,
  • Patient population includes surgical and medical cardiac critical care such as post-CABG, valve repair, Impella, IABP, thoracic aortic aneurysms, and more,
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 2,
  • 12-hour night shifts from 6 : 30pm to 7 : 00am with every other weekend work required,
  • Travelers may float to other critical care units such as PCU (1 : 3 ratio) and MS (1 : 4 ratio),
  • Epic EMR is used; experience preferred,
  • No on-call requirements,
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays,

Job Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required,
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required,
  • Minimum 1 year of recent CVICU experience required,
  • CVICU experience must be within the past year,
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred,
  • Experience with post-cardiac assessment, circulatory support (IABP, Impella, LVAD, ECMO), titration of vasoactive and antiarrhythmic medications, cardiac waveform interpretation, and hemodynamic monitoring required,
  • CCRN certification preferred,

    • Additional Information

  • Primary responsibilities include caring for critically ill cardiovascular patients, monitoring hemodynamics, and managing advanced cardiac support devices,
  • Support staff includes 24 / 7 CNA, Respiratory Therapist, Intensivist, and charge nurse present during shifts,
  • Nurse-drawn phlebotomy is required,
  • Department provides a one-week general orientation and 2-3 days of unit-specific training,
  • Royal blue scrubs are required for nursing staff,
  • Fast-paced environment with high-acuity cases,
  • Department prides itself on a collaborative, supportive team culture,
  • First-time travelers with appropriate CVICU experience are welcome to apply,
  • All time-off requests (RTO) must have nurse manager approval,
