U.S. grasslands are on the verge of a unified, large-scale conservation movement. This initiative, funded by the National Park Service (NPS), launches a major effort to advance grassland conservation across the Great Plains. Spanning 10 states and multiple National Parks, the project integrates science, planning, and on-the-ground implementation. It connects a diverse network of collaborators—including federal and state agencies, NGOs, private landowners, and academic institutions—to improve the visibility of grasslands, scale collaborative management across public-private boundaries, and communicate the value of grassland ecosystems to society.

  • Lead development of a multi-state conservation strategy focused on America’s National Parks.
  • Develop and implement standardized scientific approaches across project sites
  • Analyze, interpret and communicate conservation outcomes
  • Identify and evaluate legacy landscapes for public-facing conservation efforts
  • Provide operational leadership, including strategic planning, financial oversight and public relations for the project
  • Publish results in journals and translate science for public audiences
  • Coordinate and collaborate with National Park Service site managers, partner organizations, and local conservation networks

This position requires travel to National Park sites. Within the UNL system, this position is categorized as a Research Manager II
